Frequent Flyer Mash-Up

Many loyal frequent flyer program participants, myself included, wondered how the American and US Airways merger would impact their ability to earn and use miles.  Since they are still two separate airlines, we have had to earn miles and manage their respective frequent flyer programs separately.

But that's about to change come 2015. The American AAdvantage and Dividend Miles frequent flyer programs will be combining miles at a one to one ratio to get you closer to your next vacay.

Here are a few highlights of what's coming down the pike:

Frequent flyer programs combine

In the second quarter of 2015, American will integrate the Dividend Miles program into the AAdvantage program with three elite levels.
Only have an AAdvantage account?
  • You don't need to do anything. You'll keep the same AAdvantage number.
Only have a Dividend Miles account?
  • We'll create an AAdvantage account for you and assign you a new number when we combine programs. Your existing Dividend Miles balances will automatically be transferred. There's nothing else you'll need to do.
Have an account in both programs?
  • You'll hear from American Airlines early next year with information on how to quickly and easily match your accounts online. This will give you an opportunity to let them know you're a member of both programs.
