Do the math and get a bonus

Math wasn't my favorite subject when I was in school but nowadays I don't complain when I discover ways to make my frequent flyer miles add up.

When you have to purchase a plane ticket, consider an itinerary that will generate the most miles without sacrificing too much time.  If you can get a great deal on a direct flight... jump on it.  For the times when a connection is necessary use a mileage calculator to ensure you're getting more bang for your buck.

Also, keep your eyes open for those bonus opportunities.  When you're in the loop with your frequent flyer eNewsletter or some other mailing list, you'll get wind of various bonus mile opportunities for travel on partner airlines or between certain cities.  You can also visit the Mile Maven and enter your frequent flyer program's name or code to see various bonus mile promotions.
